Anne Decatur

TROY -  Anne Quinn Decatur passed peacefully at her home on Sunday, October 29, 2017, just a week shy of her 93rd birthday.

Born in Worcester, MA, she was the eldest daughter of the late James H. Quinn, Jr. and Mary S. O’Donnell Quinn and beloved wife of the late F. Richard “Deke” Decatur, Jr. Esq., who died in 1988.

Raised and educated in Troy, she was a graduate of Catholic Central High School and the former Katharine Gibbs School of Secretarial and Executive Training in New York. She was working as a court stenographer when Deke swept her off her feet as a young lawyer.

Anne was a longtime member of many organizations: the Historical Society of Early American Decoration, the Van Rensselaer Garden Club, Junior League of Troy, Rensselaer County Historical Society and the Country Club of Troy. Anne loved “the farm” on Tamarac Road, as well as the family cottage on Long Beach Island, New Jersey, where she devoted herself to creating a wonderful home for her family. She enjoyed painting, tennis, and hosting grand dinner parties. Through her great kindness and generosity, she developed many dear friendships over her long life.

Survivors include her son Stephen J. Decatur, her daughter Jane A. Decatur both of Brunswick, four grandchildren Danielle Decatur (Karl Wirsing) of Seattle, Brigid Carhart (Joshua) of Troy, Lori Nicola of Brunswick, Pieter Burhans (Julie) of New Jersey, three great grandchildren Colton Nicola, Colin Carhart and Oliver Burhans, also survived by several nieces and nephews.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I hope the Sisters are somewhere having a cocktail! I have fond memories of your mom and I was glad they were together for one last time for the party.
