John Bojnowski

A devoted father, loyal family member and compassionate friend passed away in Albany, NY on February 27, 2019.  John Bojnowski will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

John was born in Charleston, West Virginia on December 10, 1975. He lived in Jacksonville, Florida, Newtown, Connecticut and New Brunswick, New Jersey. A favorite place throughout his life was the Sacandaga Lake in Mayfield, NY, where he enjoyed many outdoor activities. John was most at home in nature, especially alongside his faithful brindle boxer, Kailee. He was a steadfast Mets fan and loved exploring his creative side, including photography and DIY projects.

John attended Rutgers University and the Rockefeller School at SUNY Albany. He worked at Centro Civico of Amsterdam and the New York State Assembly as an advocate for youth and education.

John had a big laugh, an even bigger heart, and a warm and fun-loving spirit. John was down-to-earth, accepting of all people and passionate about meeting them where they were. He never turned down an opportunity to lend a helping hand.

The joy of John’s heart was his five year old son Caleb.  He is also survived by his father and stepmother, Joe and Jane, his siblings, Wendy Bojnowski, Perry James and Laura Ryan, and his beloved aunt and uncle, Dale and Larry Kovarovic. His mother Kathryn Lorence and brother Chad Bojnowski have surely welcomed his spirit somewhere beyond this world.

Services will be private at the request of the family.

John was my supervisor in addition to being a beloved friend. His continual support and friendship made it possible for me to learn to be the best person I can be. He had a kind, loving and nurturing soul. I miss him dearly and I shall keep his laughter and mischievous grin in my heart forever. Many blessings to his family; he is with the angels now.

My deepest condolences to Johns family. I had the pleasure of being roommates with John for several years back in the Rutgers days. I remember many great times and much laughter with him. May he Rest In Peace.

Dear Wendy: My thoughts are with you today. A wonderful written obit on John to know him more. I believe our brothers were very similar as sensitive men, highly gifted with creativity and found their inner peace through nature. I understand how our encounter with the kindling fire was an encounter John would have welcomed. You did find a beautiful, peaceful place. Keep trusting your journey, keep rekindling your heart and trust John's heart is beating with yours. I Bless You today to see and hear.Much love and warm to you and your family, Paula VanLeuven

We are so sad to learn of Johns passing. We have such wonderful memories of the Kovarovic reunions particularly the 2012 reunion where we had a great opportunity to talk at length with John. He was so welcoming. We are very grateful for the mentoring he provided to our son, Mark, as he entered the Rockefeller program at U Albany. He readily accepted meeting with his distant cousins, Karl & Mark, giving them hints and advice about Albany. Our whole family is glad that we had the opportunity to meet John. He made such a positive impression on us all. We hope he has found peace. Prayers, angels, & prayers surround you all. Kevin (Virginia Bundys son/Anna Kovarovics grandson), Marty, Karl, & Mark Swarts

Larry, Wendy, Leah....anyone who reads this, I mourn with you over John's death. I pray that he has found the peace he sought here on earth. His best accomplishment lives on through Caleb. I can only speak of the joy he brought to our Kovarovic family reunions....especially the one in 2012. My faith tells me he is at peace and reunited with Aunt Mary and Uncle Frank and his other family members who have also passed. Much love to all of you.
