John Emmet

John Harrison Emmet, 60, of Wilton Manors, FLA, passed away suddenly on December 23, 2017. A native of Troy, he had lived in Scottsdale, AZ, Denver, CO, and New York City before relocating to Florida.

John was born in Troy on May 24, 1957 to the late John G. and Jayne Harrison Emmet. He attended St. Augustine’s School, was a 1975 graduate of CCHS and received an associate’s degree in theater from Junior College of Albany in 1977. John spent most of his career working in fine restaurants throughout the Capital District and in New York City.  In recent years, he served as catering manager of Stork’s Café and Bakery in Wilton Manors, creating a catering department and substantially growing that business in just several years.

John loved the theater and spent many happy years managing Puleo’s Restaurant in the heart of Broadway, as well as working at Walden Family Playhouse in Denver.  His quick wit and wonderful sense of humor will be missed by his family and friends.

He was the beloved brother of Nancy Emmet-Farnan (Frank LaPosta) of Troy and Lisa (Anthony) D’Angelo of Tucson and Denver; his nephews and nieces, Thomas (Rory) Farnan of Troy; Amy (Christopher) Babcock of Troy; Sara (Eric) Olson of Golden, CO; and Anthony (Allison) D’Angelo of Littleton, CO. He is also survived by his aunts, Nancy Harrison Gabriels of Clifton Park and Mary Emmet Foster of Schenectady, and several great-nephews and great-nieces.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 10 at 1 pm at McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, 8 109th Street in Troy, NY, 12182. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate John’s life and may call from 11 am – 1 pm. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Lansingburgh. The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to John’s work colleagues and friends in Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Thank you John for so many amazing bright sun shining smiles and so many genuine hugs. You were so incredibly real and made me feel so important whenever we would run into each other. When i felt so disconnected you always brought light into my day with that smile. I love you forever.

Shocked and sad to hear that John died. We both grew up in Speigletown and were involved at CCHS Music Department. What a talented, fun-loving guy! My heart goes out to John's family and many friends. Rest in peace, old friend.

Just heard the news today. There are no words to express the sadness and shock when I learned of John's untimely passing. John was always quick witted and had an amazing energy. He will be sorely missed. May his family, friends and colleagues find peace and comfort in John's infectious laugh and Spirit of joy which he always displayed.

To John's family I give you my deepest condolences. He was a wonderful person who I had the pleasure of doing business with for 7 years. He was great at his job but more importantly was a terrific and caring person. I am devastated at his passing. I will miss him.

I will miss John, as will his community in Wilton Manors. He was hard working and generous, creative, smart, funny and imaginative. He loved finding "win-win" situations to support many worthy non-profit organizations and often volunteered his own time. He pushed us all to do better, but of course he pushed no one harder than himself. Wherever he is now, i hope his feet are up--in too few years on this plane, he's earned it. RIP John. love, Row and all of us here at Equality Florida, which benefited from your efforts. I will never forget how you staffed a station of wedding cakes donated by Peter Dekaj and Storks, to celebrate legal same-sex marriage in Florida and the hundreds of couples who showed up at the courthouse at midnight on Jan 6th 2015--waiting their turn to get married. Thank you, John!
