Speigletown-Raymond E. Zareski, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, June 18, 2016.
Ray was born in Hoosick Falls. He was the fifth of seven children born to the late Stephen and Sophia Zareski.
He was raised and educated in Hoosick Falls, and worked the family farm until becoming employed by Contractor Sales in Albany. He retired after 44 years of service.
On June 7, 1947, he married the love of his life Barbara Marcou. They settled in Speigletown in 1959 where they raised their three children.
Ray was a communicant of St. Augustine’s Church. He was a longtime member of the Speigletown Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Brunswick Lodge of Elks, and was also active in the Hilltop Bowl Businessmen’s Bowling League for many years.
Prior to his retirement, Ray and Barb would travel the northeast on weekends and vacations in their cherished motorhome. Soon after his retirement they embarked on a month’s long cross country trip. They spent the winters in Melbourne, Florida for several years before taking up permanent residence in 2000. Ray remained in Florida after the passing of his wife in 2004, returning to New York in 2013.
Ray is survived by his sons Richard Zareski of Mechanicville, Randy (Debbie) Zareski of Speigletown and daughter Robin Zareski of Virginia Beach, Va., his grandchildren Tyler (Alex) Hinman, Amanda Zareski and Jordan Zareski, his grandson in law Andrew Walts, his sisters Helen Brust of Hoosick Falls and Genevieve Goff of Saranac Lake, also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Ray was predeceased by his wife Barbara Zareski, his brothers Stephen, Benjamin, Joseph and Edward and his granddaughter Rachel Zareski Walts.
Funeral service will be 10:30 am on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Waterford.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
