Robert Romano

Troy- Robert A. Romano passed away April 7, 2021 at Samaritan Hospital after battling cancer. Robert worked over 30 years at the Vanderhyden Hall taking care of the disabled. He loved his coworkers and those he cared for. He often used his own resources to help them celebrate holidays and special events. He was a generous and thoughtful neighbor and was known to engage in dancing in the street with his neighbors whenever he could. He was an avid piano player and enjoyed sharing his talents, especially Jingle Bell Rock.

Robert is survived by his parents Rom and Addie Romano, sister Joanne (Romano) McCarthy, nephew and Godson Sean (Amy) Looby, nephew and Matthew Looby, and nieces Meghan (Brian) Straight, Emily (Eric) Bergdoll. As well as a large extended family he loved very much. He is also survived by his dear friends Robin Tadjbakhsh and John Foley.

A special thank you to the staff of Samaritan Hospital Emergency Department who showed great compassion during a difficult time.

Family and friends are invited and may call from 10 AM to 11 AM on Monday, April 12, 2021 at Our Lady of Victory Church, 55 North Lake Avenue, Troy. Funeral mass will follow calling hours at 11 AM on Monday at church. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Troy. Please note that social distancing, masks and occupancy limitations in the church are required.

Guestbook

I have only gotten to know Rob over the last year plus as his neighbor. We looked out for each other the way good neighbors do. His morning music and dancing often set the tone for my day. We enjoyed many conversations on the stoop and his fur child Vanilla. He is and will be missed here. I regret that work will not allow me to take off to attend his service. I expect many uplifting stories about Rob will be shared. My heart felt condolences to his family.
