Theodore Holmes, Jr.

Theodore “Buddy” Holmes, Jr., often referred to as Teddy Love and Smiley, 83, was called home on February 4, 2021 at Samaritan Hospital surrounded by family. Theodore was born on September 3, 1937, in Myrtle Beach, SC, to the late Theodore Holmes, Sr. and Ethel Corbitt Holmes.

Buddy relocated to Troy, NY where he worked at K-Mart for 30 years before he retired.

Theodore is predeceased by his parents, three brothers, Ernest and Herbert Holmes and George Smalls, one sister, Mary Middleton, and one daughter, Vivian Phillips.

He leaves to cherish his memories to two daughters, Ethel (Harold) Pettiway and Lisa Holmes (Clarence) of Troy, NY, two sons John Earl and Bernard Holmes and like a step-son, Norris Gibson, all of Troy, NY. He also leaves one sister-in-law, Mary-Alice Smalls of Myrtle Beach, SC. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren Sharita, Latoya, Terrell, Rashon, Lisa, Jameliah and William, all of Troy, NY. He leaves many nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.

All who knew and loved Buddy, could always count on him to make them smile. Whether it be him calling you ugly because he loved to joke or simply asking, “You know me?,” with the brightest smile. Teddy Love was a very handsome ladies man. So he liked to believe, after so many missions to “go get them women.” He is the self proclaimed “Mr. Pretty”. So pretty, he said he couldn’t sleep at night. Buddy loved taking cruises around the capital region with his granddaughters. No matter the weather, Buddy would be one of three places - Nite Owl News, Stewart’s on tenth street or Uncle Sam’s Bowling Alley. Buddy was a very dedicated, loving and hardworking man that will be missed.

Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, February 13, 2021 from 10 AM to 11 AM. A funeral service will then follow at the funeral home at 11 AM. Burial will proceed at the Elmwood Hill Cemetery in Troy, NY.
