A. Richard "Rick' Dzembo, 67, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Albany Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Andrew Dzembo and Cleora Retallick Dzembo and beloved husband for 45 years of Barbara Pakatar Dzembo of Troy.
Raised and educated in Troy, he was a graduate of Troy High School, class of 1965 and Rochester Institute of Technology, class of 1970, where he was a member of the Tau Epsilon Phi Fraternity. Rick was owner and manager of R. Retallick & Sons building materials in Watervliet for over 40 years.
Rick was very active in Freemasonry. He was a Past Master of Mt. Zion Lodge No. 311 in Troy, a trustee of Clinton Lodge No. 140 in Waterford, and secretary of Van Rensselaer-Star No. 400 in Hoosick Falls. He was a Past Grand Sword Bearer of the Grand Lodge of the State of New York, Past President of the Troy Masonic Community Center, treasurer of the Friends of the Stewart House and a member of Oriental Shrine, Iran Grotto, and Godfather of the Bull Moose Society. Rick was a water polo coach at RPI and coach and chairman for the Adirondack regional team in the Empire State Games for a number of years. Rick loved his family and the greatest times in Rick's life were the times he spent with his family on Lake George. He enjoyed boating, fishing and relaxing around the lake.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Barbara, include two sons Jason Dzembo (Robbin) of Rensselaer, Damon Dzembo (Tamara) of Brunswick, five grandchildren David Dzembo, Virginia LaPlante, Kayla Dzembo, Alexis Dzembo, Reagan Dzembo, two sisters Sarah "Sally" Schillaci of Brunswick, Cynthia Pinsonnault (Bernie) of Troy and countless nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be 11:15 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2014 from the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh and at noon at the Gardner Earl Crematorium Chapel with Rev. Steve Schlossberg officiating. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. at funeral home.
A Masonic memorial service will be held at the funeral home at 6:00 pm on Sunday.
