Ambrose L. Nash, 85 of Marshland Court, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2014 at St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by his family.
Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Ambrose L. Nash, Sr. and Helen G. Anglum Nash and husband of the late Joan Ann Mooney Nash who died in 2004.
A lifelong resident of Troy, he was a graduate of St. Peter's Academy, LaSalle Institute, class of 1947 and Troy Business College. After graduation he served in the Naval Reserves. Ambrose was a principal accountant clerk with the Troy School District for 30 years, retiring in 1997. During his retirement he devoted much of his time to the former St. Peter's Church in Troy, assisting in the many dinners and bazaars. He was a familiar figure at local banks trying to sell tickets whenever St. Peter's had a raffle. Ambrose was selected by Fr. Flanigan, former pastor of St. Peter's Church, to be the first lay Eucharistic Minister. He was always proud of being an altar boy at St. Peter's until he was 21 years old. He was also a trustee, member of St. Vincent DePaul Society and Parish Council. He was the number one fan of the Pine Bush Girls Softball League. He was an active communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church, Troy. Ambrose was a man of faith and service and will be remembered as a thoughtful and compassionate man who treasured his family, friends and religious community.
Survivors include his six children; Mary Davis (James) of Houston, TX, Joseph T. Nash (Gillian Leonard) of Loudonville, Marty Nash (Gail) of Guilderland, John P. Nash (Debbie) of Troy, Joanne Nash Bruce (Jerry) of East Greenbush, James R. Nash (Kim Liberty) of Troy, nine grandchildren James, Mary Kate and Anna Davis, Alyssa and Kelly Nash, Andrea Fagan (Sean), Erin Welch, Kristina and Timothy Liberty, one great granddaughter Stella Fagan, one brother Edward Nash (Theresa) of Colonie, two sisters Grace Jones (Joseph) of Rochester and Helen Mary White (Late Hank) of Hamden, CT, his sister in law Geraldine Zotto (late Clement) of Troy, and several nieces and nephews.
Ambrose was predeceased by his brother William Nash.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Our Lady of Victory Church with Rev. Randall Patterson officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Troy.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, October 31, 2014 at the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh.
