Daniel F. Martuscello Jr., 73, of Troy, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, Albany Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Dan was born in Troy, NY, to Daniel and Catherine (Kay) Martuscello, on July 3rd, 1949. He was a graduate of Troy High School.
Dan was married to Victoria (Bea) Bizzarro on June 3rd, 1972, and were married for over 50 years.
Dan was predeceased by his parents Daniel and Catherine Martuscello of Troy, and his siblings Barbara (Frank) Romano, Catherine (Angelo) Zullo, Patricia (Vincent) Cavallo, and Kimberly Trexler, and his brother-in-law Savario Bizzarro.
He is survived by his wife, Victoria, his children Daniel (Melissa) Martuscello III, Christopher (Susan) Martuscello, Catherine Martuscello, Angela (Bobbyjoe) Fosmire, Victoria (Thomas) Lansing, and Nicholas Martuscello, his amazing grandchildren, Dani, Chris, Elizabeth, Anthony, Madison, Jake, Gianni, Oliver, Gia, Ford, Harper, Liv, and Sawyer (Conroy as he often called her), his brother-in-law Brian Trexler, several nieces and nephews and close family friend Judi Byrnes.
Dan was a dedicated family man who always put family above all else. He has passed on his love for family to all who loved him along with so many of his other great qualities. He was so proud of all of his children’s accomplishments and all of the great things he knew his grandchildren would achieve. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, whether it be at the house, by the pool, on the annual family vacation or at the various sporting events for his grandchildren. Dan was involved in a variety of youth sports organizations, most notable was the South Troy Pop Warner for over 40 years, and the Capital District Pop Warner, serving as president of both organizations for longer than anyone can remember and up until the time of his death. He was a true volunteer in every sense of the word, he had a tremendous impact on his community and helped provide an environment that taught important life lessons to thousands of youth in the area.
Dan was a member of the Italian Community Center in Troy, New York, and the Clifton Park Rifle Club. Dan retired from the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision in January of 2018, as the Superintendent of the Coxsackie Correctional Facility and the Supervising Superintendent of the Great Meadow HUB, after forty-nine years of service. During his career he steadily rose through the security ranks, holding every security title until his appointment to Superintendent. He was an amazing leader and visionary, who cared deeply for his staff, and left an indelible mark on the facility, the Department and everyone that he encountered. His professionalism and knowledge in the field of corrections was unparalleled.
The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to the staff on the Critical Care Unit (D2) at the Albany Medical Center, especially to his nurses.
