Elizabeth "Bette" DeChiro, 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, January 8, 2015.

Bette was born and raised in Watervliet, she was the daughter to the late John Morrone and Lena Cerasoli Morrone, loving wife to the late John J. DeChiro, who died in 1977.

She graduated from Catholic Central High School, class of 1942; she was a parishioner of the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Watervliet.

Bette worked for the Watervliet Police Department for many years as a secretary to the chief.

Survivors include her children, Carol DeChiro Capoccia (Andrew) of Watervliet, Helena Slater (the late Charles) of Boca Raton, FL, Mary Beth D'Alessandro (Emilio) of Coconut Creek, FL, her grandchildren, Deana Bizzarro Karam (Michael) of Wilton, Eugene Bizzarro (Jessica) of Wilton, Jaclyn DeChiro (Kristen) of Quincy, MA and her seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Bette was predeceased by her son Daniel DeChiro, her brothers, Daniel Morrone, John Morrone and her sister, Sophie Morrone.

Family and friends are invited Tuesday, January 13, 2015 from 9 am to 10 am with a funeral mass to follow at 10:00 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 2420 Seventh Avenue, Watervliet, NY. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the Watervliet Fire Department for their compassionate care given to Bette.
