Elizabeth LaPosta

Elizabeth LaPosta “Betty”, 88 formerly of Cohoes passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center in Troy.

Born in Troy, she was of the daughter of the late Steven Smith and Winifred McCloskey Smith.  She was the beloved wife of Frank A. LaPosta, who died in 2005.

She graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1945.

Betty worked for New York State Department of Education. In her retirement, she worked in the family business, LaPosta Brothers Market. She was an active volunteer at Eddy Daybreak at Marjorie Doyle Rockwell Center and Samaritan Hospital. Betty was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Troy and Holy Trinity Church in Cohoes.

The family would like to thank the staff at Marjorie Doyle Rockwell Center and Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center for the special care they provided to Betty.

Betty is survived by her children Betty Thomas (Ted) of Atlantic Beach, NC, Frank LaPosta (Nancy Farnan) of Troy, Nancy LaPosta-Frazier (Michael) of Narragansett, RI and James LaPosta (Joanne) of Speigletown, her grandchildren Eric Thomas, Stephen Thomas (Christina), Andrew LaPosta, Emily Lopez, Meghan Frazier, Kathryn Frazier, Joseph LaPosta and Marie LaPosta. She is also survived by three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother Stanley Smith.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 26, 2016 at 9:15 am. from the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh and at 10:00 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Church where the funeral mass will be celebrated.

Burial will follow at Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
