ATLANTIC BEACH, NC --- Elizabeth LaPosta Thomas, 72, died peacefully at home on April 18 after a difficult battle with ALS. Born on June 12, 1948 to Frank and Elizabeth Smith LaPosta, Betty grew up in Lansingburgh, just blocks from her family's business, LaPosta's Confectionery on Fifth Avenue. A graduate of St. Patrick's School and Catholic Central High School, class of 1966, Betty attended St. Peter's Nursing School in Albany, graduating in 1969 as a registered nurse. She practiced her profession primarily at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, serving in the ambulatory surgery department for many years. Betty and her husband, Ted, raised their family in Clifton Park before retiring to their "home on the beach" in North Carolina. She loved spending time with her family and friends, and always had a smile on her face -- especially when visiting a casino with Ted! In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by her devoted sons Stephen (Christina) Thomas of Cary, NC, and Eric Thomas of Durham, NC; her grandsons Philip and Theo Thomas; siblings, Frank (Nancy Farnan) LaPosta of Troy, Nancy (Michael) LaPosta-Frazier of Narragansett, RI, and James (Joanne) LaPosta of Speigletown. She leaves behind several loving nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends in the Capital Region and North Carolina. A celebration of Betty's life, to be held in Troy, will be announced at a later date. Betty was an active member and past-president of the Pine Knoll Shores Women's Club, 100 Municipal Circle, Pine Knoll Shores, NC, 28512. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to that organization or to the charity of one's choice.
