Evelyn Steen

Evelyn M. (Adams) Steen, 91, of Wynantskill passed away at Samaritan Hospital on Wednesday November 9, 2016 after a long illness.  She was loved by everyone that knew her kind spirit.

Evelyn was born in Troy, the daughter of the late Eugene and Helen (Berney) Adams. She was the loving wife of the late Daniel E. Steen, and a lifelong resident of Wynantskill. Evelyn was a graduate of Averill Park High School.  Along with her husband and brother-in-law, she owned and operated Linoleum and Carpet Service.

Evelyn was a charter member of St. Jude the Apostle Church in Wynantskill, a member of the Altar Rosary Society, and was active in the St. Jude CYO for many years.  She was also a dedicated volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America.  Until recently, she was an active member of the North Greenbush Senior Citizens’ Club.  Her favorite hobbies were camping and playing Bingo with her sisters, and she loved taking cruise vacations with her family.

She was the mother of Daniel M. (Patricia) Steen of Wynantskill, and the late Patricia A. Steen.  Evelyn is also survived by a sister, Elaine Haskins of Wynantskill, as well as two grandchildren, Elizabeth (Edwin) Anker of Wynantskill, and Daniel C. Steen of Mechanicville.  Evelyn’s sole great-granddaughter, Evelyn Anker, was proudly named after her.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 43 Brookside Ave, Wynantskill where the funeral mass will be celebrated.

Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Waterford.

A calling hour will be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. prior to the funeral mass.
