Garrett A. Holt, "Gary", 86 of Country Way and former Seventh Avenue resident passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at Samaritan Hospital.
Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Leroy J. Holt and Marguerite Garrett Holt and loving husband of 60 years to Maureen Brennan Holt of Brunswick.
Raised and educated in Troy, he attended Sacred Heart School, LaSalle Institute and graduated from Troy High School, class of 1948. Gary was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He worked for the Grand Union Warehouse in Waterford for 34 years, retiring in 1990. He was a parking attendant for Albany Medical Center for 18 years and worked at the Knickerbocker Ice Arena for three years. Gary was a man of faith and will be remembered as a thoughtful and generous man who treasured his family and friends. He had a great interest in cars and enjoyed his walks and long talks with his friends in the burgh. He was an active member of the former St. Patrick's Church, Troy and a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church, Troy.
Survivors in addition to his wife Maureen, his four children Kathleen McDermott (Tom) of Manchester, CT, Jack Holt of Troy, Carolyn Mistarka (Gary) of New Paltz, Gerri Borden (Gary) of Troy, five grandchildren Matt and Kevin McDermott, Stephen Mistarka, Kelly Horton (Steve), Jill Borden and one great grandson Brody Horton, his sister Marjorie Coughtry (Bill) of Florida.
Funeral services will be held 9:45 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2014 from the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh and at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church, 55 North Lake Avenue, Troy where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be private at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
