George Kanellis, 95, of Griswold Ave., died on Sunday October 30, 2016 at home. Born in Peristasis Greece he was the son of the late Sophia and Nicholas Kanellis. George was predeceased by his loving wife Mary of 59 years.

Dad was a kind, generous, loving and deeply religious man who was the backbone of his family. He devoted his life to loving, nurturing and looking over his children, their families, grandchildren, great grandchildren-the entire family.

He also had many friends he embraced as brothers and sisters. It cannot be stressed enough how he would always put others ahead of himself.

He was a strong individual who even to the end tried to be as selfless and independent as he could. He always loved children and was "Papou" to the many children whose lives he had touched.

He was an active member of the Saint Basil Greek Orthodox Church in Troy. He was also a lifelong member of AHEPA.

Dad, you are joining your wife, our mother, and our children’s Yia Yia, Mary, as you now begin your spirtual journey together.

We love you dad, papou, friend, we are who we are because of you. You have blessed us and all whose lives you have touched. May we always make you proud when both you and mom look down upon us.

George is survived by his two sons, Nicholas (Kristine) Kanellis, of Colonie and Constantine "Deno" (Carmela) Kanellis of Wynantskill.

He is also survived by his five grandchildren. Constantine (Megan) Kanellis, Amanda (Dan) Talham, Dean (Christa) Kanellis, David Kanellis, Kolby Kanellis.

The family wishes to thank all of dad's loving friends who looked after him and as Greeks often do, sent food. Thank you Hospice for caring and understanding our family.
