George Richard Maxfield Sr., 82, of Guideboard Road, Halfmoon died Sunday, August 12, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy illness. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late George E Maxfield and Maude A. Landfear and beloved husband of the late Carol J. (MacNaughton) Maxfield of Halfmoon who died in 2007. They were married 45 years. Raised in Grafton, he worked at the New York State Canal Corporation for 30 years and also ran a successful small farming business and vegetable stand with his wife on Guideboard Road in Halfmoon. After retirement, George worked for the Town of Halfmoon Parks Department. George had a feisty spirit and a zest for life. He loved being with his family most of all. He loved home-cooked meals, holidays, hunting and watching deer, drinking coffee, and eating Guptill’s ice cream. Survivors include two daughters, Laurie A. Heimroth of Valatie; Lisa A. McCullough (Christopher) of East Berne; and two sons, George R. Maxfield Jr. (Jamie) of Brunswick and David Maxfield (John Sullivan) of Halfmoon; his dear grandchildren who will love him forever and ever, Nicole Marie Heimroth (Valatie), Shawn Christopher McCullough (BreAnna), Ryan Joseph McCullough (Chloe), Julianna Carolann Maxfield; Caitlyn Savannah Maxfield; his great-grandchildren Gabriel James Heimroth Yusko and Theodore Jack McCullough; and loving brothers, Edward, Leon, James, Charles, Kenneth and sister Shirley DeVoe (predeceased); several nieces, nephews and many, many friends. George was also predeceased by an infant son, Todd Allen Maxfield. The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and wonderfully caring staff on the fifth floor Samaritan hospital and a very special thank you for the extra special care given by Leanne Akin and Tony Esposito. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh. Burial will be in Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy. Calling hours will be Wednesday, 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
