Helen Maier

Helen B. Carroll Maier, 94 passed away peacefully at her residence in Lansingburgh on April 22, 2016 after a short illness.

Born in Troy, she was the youngest daughter of the late Charles Carroll and Sarah Moran Carroll. She was raised by her Aunt Helen and Uncle Tom Roche. She was beloved wife of Andy Maier who died in 2012. They were married in 1955.

She graduated from Lansingburgh High School in 1940. Prior to her marriage, Helen was employed by the Veteran's Administration and by Drs. Martin and Albright. She was a homemaker most of her life.

Together she and Andy raised two children who survive her, Stephen J. Maier and Christopher T. Maier (Beth Walsh) both of Troy. She is also survived by her three grandchildren Kristen Maier of Washington State, and Thomas and Eric Maier of Troy. Helen was predeceased by three brother John F. Carroll, Charles Carroll, and Francis Carroll, two sisters Elizabeth Copeland and Josephine Bourk.

"Helen of Troy" as she liked to refer to herself, was outgoing, had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to dance. She was a good friend to many and maintained friendships over her lifetime because she was caring, compassionate and genuine. Over the years she organized class reunions of her St. Augustine's grammar school class and her high school class. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Augustine's Church, Troy. Helen was also a life member of Germania Hall where, because of her proud Irish heritage, she and Andy shared many good times. Above all, she was a loving and supportive wife and mother, who will be greatly missed.

Helen's family would like to express their deep gratitude to Haydee, Vivian, Ivonne and Miliza for having provided loving and compassionate care to Helen. Her family is also especially thankful to her loving and devoted niece Chris Carroll.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 8:45 a.m. from the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church in Lansingburgh where the funeral mass will be celebrated.

Entombment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
