James H Saxby, 82, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Jim was born and raised in Schenectady and was the son of the late Harry Saxby and Pearl Duchane Saxby. He was the devoted husband of 61 years to Lucille Terrenzio Saxby. Jim graduated from Mount Pleasant High School, class of 1957, where he was a tri-sport star athlete excelling in football, wrestling and track team as a shot-putter. He was an avid hunter and lifelong fisherman while rooting on his Cleveland Browns and former Brooklyn Dodgers. Jim began his career as a meat cutter working for Grand Union, followed by owning Friendly’s Market, and subsequently working for Price Chopper and Hannaford. He was a past president of Speigletown Fire Department.
In addition to his loving wife Lucille, Jim is survived by his two sons Mark (Wendy Fioravanti) Saxby of Colonie and Robert (Deborah) Saxby of Waterford, his grandchildren Evan Saxby and Connor Saxby, his step-grandchildren Jon (Ashley) Perreault, Joanna (Robert) West, Isabella Anziano and Salvatore Anziano, his sister Roberta (Jack) Koretnicki of Rotterdam, his brother-in-law David (Mary Lou) Terrenzio of Niskayuna, as well as several nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his mother, father and sister-in-law Julie (the late Wayne) Leece.
Family and friends are invited and may call between 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Monday, February 8, 2021 at the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home 8 109th Street, Troy, NY 12182. A prayer service will follow at 3:00 pm with Deacon Chuck Wojton officiating. Burial will be private.
