Troy- Joan B. Roberts Simard, 89, of Lansingburgh, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2022. Born in Cohoes, she was the daughter of the late Ovila Roberts and Marie Charette both of Cohoes. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene Arthur Simard in 2001, her daughter Linda Bailey in 2016, her brother James Roberts and her sister Carol Horn. Raised and educated in Cohoes, she was a graduate of St. Joseph’s School. After school, Joan briefly discerned a vocation as a nun, but realized that the love of her life, Eugene Simard, her late brother, Jimmy’s best friend, was a better fit for her life. With Eugene, she raised 6 children all in Cohoes before a fire had their family move to Lansingburgh, where she spent the rest of her life. Joan was known as Mim (short for Mémère) by everyone including her many grandchildren. Joan was quiet, joyful and a faithful servant to her Christian faith. She was truly a contented soul. Surviving family include her sister, Rose Vautrin (Gene) of Rensselaer, loving children, Earl Simard of Schenectady, Barbara Biette (Gary) of Troy, Dawn Simard (Bud Mitchell) of Lansingburgh, Arthur Simard (Annette) of Lansingburgh, Christopher Simard of Lansingburgh, and her many nieces and nephews along with her true joy which came from the 15 Grandchildren, 30 Great-grandchildren and 1 Great-great-grandchild. The family would like to thank Dr. Courtney Bellomo at New York Oncology Hematology for all her support and care. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at Oakwood Bible Church, 260 Oakwood Ave., Troy with Reverend James DuJack officiating. A calling hour will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2022 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Oakwood Bible Church prior to the service. Burial will follow the services at the Oakwood Bible Cemetery, Troy.
