John Harrison Emmet, 60, of Wilton Manors, FLA, passed away suddenly on December 23, 2017. A native of Troy, he had lived in Scottsdale, AZ, Denver, CO, and New York City before relocating to Florida.
John was born in Troy on May 24, 1957 to the late John G. and Jayne Harrison Emmet. He attended St. Augustine’s School, was a 1975 graduate of CCHS and received an associate’s degree in theater from Junior College of Albany in 1977. John spent most of his career working in fine restaurants throughout the Capital District and in New York City. In recent years, he served as catering manager of Stork’s Café and Bakery in Wilton Manors, creating a catering department and substantially growing that business in just several years.
John loved the theater and spent many happy years managing Puleo’s Restaurant in the heart of Broadway, as well as working at Walden Family Playhouse in Denver. His quick wit and wonderful sense of humor will be missed by his family and friends.
He was the beloved brother of Nancy Emmet-Farnan (Frank LaPosta) of Troy and Lisa (Anthony) D’Angelo of Tucson and Denver; his nephews and nieces, Thomas (Rory) Farnan of Troy; Amy (Christopher) Babcock of Troy; Sara (Eric) Olson of Golden, CO; and Anthony (Allison) D’Angelo of Littleton, CO. He is also survived by his aunts, Nancy Harrison Gabriels of Clifton Park and Mary Emmet Foster of Schenectady, and several great-nephews and great-nieces.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 10 at 1 pm at McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, 8 109th Street in Troy, NY, 12182. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate John’s life and may call from 11 am – 1 pm. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Lansingburgh. The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to John’s work colleagues and friends in Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
