John Manella, 83, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at Evergreen Commons Nursing Home. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late John and Vivian Manella; and beloved husband of the late Marion (Renaud) Manella. John was a lifelong area resident and attended Troy High School where he played football and ran track. He worked at Nashua formerly Behr-Manning Co. in Watervliet, NY for 43 years in the tape and sandpaper divisions. During his time at Nashua he spent 9 of those years as President of the United Paper Workers Union. If someone needed assistance, he was quick to step in to negotiate resolution on their behalf. He enjoyed many outdoor activities such as hunting, hiking, canoeing and camping with his family and friends. He belonged to the Taconic Valley Rod, Gun & Camera Club in Eagle Mills, NY, where he enjoyed one of his favorite activities, target shooting as well as visiting friends. He loved his family and extended family, if something was needed, he would step in to lend a hand. John is survived by his children, Deborah (David) Kulzer, Paul (Connie) Manella, Janice (Paul) Campisi, Deborah Green, Pamela (Stephen) Crane, Dawn (Greg) Brown & Dale Green; and his brother Paul V. (Alice) Manella. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Visitation for John will be held at Our Lady of Victory Church, 55 N Lake Ave, Troy, NY on Monday, January 23 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.. Mass held at 12 with Inurnment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 79 Brunswick Rd, Troy, NY.
