John M. Rotelli, 88, of Hoosick Road, died Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Alexander Rotelli and Mary Benedict Rotelli and husband of the late Blanche Yaiser Rotelli who died in 2010.
A lifelong resident of Troy, he was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, class of 1943 and Siena College. Mr. Rotelli was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II in the Battle of the Bulge. John was a hardworking and well known businessman for 65 years. He was proprietor of Rotelli Brothers Grocery and Garden Center. He had a great smile and always a story to tell his customers. John will be remembered as a generous hardworking man who treasured his family and enjoyed his work and customers. Dad was famous for making minestra and sauce (tomatoes from his garden) and giving it to his friends and customers. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church. John loved watching Siena Basketball and loved the NY Mets.
Survivors include his three daughters Ruth Forcinella (Kevin) of Wynantskill, Donna Islip (Dave) of Brunswick, Sharon Patenaude (Vincent Razzano) of Troy, five grandchildren Jacqueline Islip, Christopher Patenaude, Christine Islip, Cody Patenaude, Michael Islip and several nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by his grandson John M. Patenaude, his sister Florence Page, two brothers Donald Rotelli and Alexander Rotelli, Jr.
The family would like to thank Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, especially Raymond, Penny and Whitney for all their care and support.
Funeral services will be 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 from the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home and at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church, North Lake Avenue, Troy, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy.
Calling hours will be held 4 to 7 p.m. on Tueday at the funeral home.
