Joseph Brennan Walsh, MD, entered into eternal life on August 22, 2017. He was the adored son of the late Joseph E. and Edna M. Walsh. He leaves behind his beloved spouse and partner of forty years, Don W. Lundquist, and his dear sister, Martha E. Walsh, of Troy. Dr. Walsh is also survived by his loving niece and nephews: Hon. Elizabeth M. Walsh (Hon. Christopher T. Maier) of Troy, NY, Captain Joseph R. Champagne, USN-RC retired (Susan) of Leavenworth, WA, Mr. Mark P. Walsh (Anne Bair) of Troy, NY, Mr. Daniel W. Champagne (Susan) of Mohegan Lake, NY, and Dr. Christopher R. Walsh (Jennifer) of Guilderland, NY. Dr. Walsh is also survived by several grand nieces and nephews. Dr. Walsh was educated in the Troy Public Schools and graduated from Troy High School. He then went on to graduate from Georgetown University and Georgetown University School of Medicine. He completed his residency at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and a retinal fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center. Dr. Walsh was a leading medical and surgical retinal specialist. He served for twenty-five years as Professor and Chairman of the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. Walsh had a very strong Christian faith. Throughout most of his adult life he was a member of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem. He and Don spent many vacations traveling to Jerusalem with medical supplies and donating their treasure and time volunteering their services at the Order of St. John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital. Dr. Walsh worked with the Hospital’s ophthalmic outreach teams in the Gaza Strip clinics and the West Bank refugee camps. Joe’s spirit will continue to shed a bright beam of light on all our paths. A Celebration of Joe’s life will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel and Cultural Center, 2125 Burdett Avenue, Troy.
