Joseph J. Weiss, 88, of Troy, a resident of Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home, passed away on July 4, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital Hospice Care in Troy.
Born July 28, 1926 in the Albia section of Troy, son of the late Joseph J. Weiss, Sr., and Clara (Krambuhl) Weiss. He attended Troy High, joining the U.S. Navy in 1943 seeing action during the liberation of the Philippine Islands, later returning to earn his high school diploma in 1948. Joe was employed from 1948 until his retirement in 1985 at the former Behr Manning, later Norton Company (traffic division) in Watervliet, extending his working career at the Leonard Hospital through 1988.
For many years Joe was a member of the United Methodist Church of Lansingburgh, a highly decorated Master Mason of over 50 years at the Apollo-King Solomon's Lodge No. 13 in Troy and an Oriental Shriner.
Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife of almost 36 years, Ruth D. (Bullock) in 1988, his son, Stephen E. Weiss and brother, Robert J. Weiss.
Joe is survived by his son David J. (Sharon) and granddaughter Lyndsi, of Saratoga Springs, nephew, Robert (Cynthia) Weiss of Apalachin, NY and niece, Bonnie (Giuliano) D'Andrea of Clifton Park.
Memorial service will be held from 1 to 2 pm, Thursday, July 9 at McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, 8- 109th Street, Troy. Interment is private. Please visit www.mcloughlinmason.com.
