Konstantine Papadopoulos

Konstantine "Gus" Papadopoulos, 82, of Troy, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2015 at Samaritan Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Sappes, Greece, he was the son of the late Michalis Papadopoulos and Fanio Karampazaki Papadopoulos and loving husband of Eleni Vasiliades Papadopoulos of Troy.
Raised and educated in Greece, Konstantine served in the Greek Army and subsequently established a small business in his hometown. He immigrated to the United States with his wife and sons in 1970 for a better life for his sons. He worked with his brothers in law at the Famous Lunch in Troy for over 25 years. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing his bounty of grapes and vegetables with his family, friends, and neighbors. He was devoted to his family and they were a source of great joy for him. He was an active member of St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church in Troy and a member of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) and the Capital District Pontos Society.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Eleni, include his two sons, Michael Papadopoulos (Angelique) of Cohoes and Socrates Papadopoulos (Stephanie) of Phoenix, AZ, his grandchildren Eleni and Christina Papadopoulos of Cohoes and Constantine, Susan, and Eleni Papadopoulos of Phoenix, AZ. He is also survived by his brother, Antonios Papadopoulos, his sister, Maria Kazantides both of Greece, brothers and sisters-in-law Edward and Victoria Nicholas, Steve and Christine Vasil of Troy, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will 10:00am on Saturday, January 31st at St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church, 909 River Street, Troy with Fr. Emmanuel E. Mantzouris officiating.
Burial will follow at Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Belle Avenue, Troy.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4 to 7pm at McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Konstantine's memory may be made to St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church, 909 River Street, Troy, NY 12180.
