Troy-Marilyn T. Breen Abramovitz, a long-term Guilderland resident peacefully passed after a long illness on December 31st 2017. She was 82. Her last years were spent being well cared for by the wonderful staff at the Troy Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing and her sister and caretaker Sharon Breen.
Marilyn was born on December 10th, 1935 in Cohoes to the late Norman and Bernadette Breen (Larkins). She was the second of 9 children and in her teenage years worked hard to help raise her siblings.
Marilyn is a graduate of Troy High School where she met her long time best friend Lorraine Waite Wright from Cropseyville, where Marilyn resided in her teen years. She was a graduate of the class of 1953. While raising her children, she went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology (Magna Cum Laude) from The College of Saint Rose.
Ms. Abramovitz elected to pursue a successful career with the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, from which she retired in 2003, after twenty-five years of service.
Ms. Abramovitz is survived by her children; Michael Abramovitz of Albany, Kathleen Abramovitz of Lansingburgh, and Dan Abramovitz of Altamont. She is also survived by her siblings; Sharon Breen of Lansingburgh, Karen Breen Ayliffe of Florida, Dennis Breen of Albany and many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her son Glenn Abramovitz, and brothers William, Thomas, Norman, Robert and Gordon.
Calling hours will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, January 8, 2017 at the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh.
