Troy- Marilyn Morris Miller, 86, of Troy, NY, went to Heaven on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2019 after a long illness. Born in Troy on March 24, 1933 to Robert and Beatrice Morris, Marilyn spent most of her life in this area, attending Troy grammar schools and Troy High School. She held a diploma from HVCC where she trained for her future employment as a psychiatric social worker for the State of New York.
Marilyn was an exceptionally positive thinker, full of energy, always smiling, always optimistic and sure to find the rainbow in any one of life’s storms. She loved any happy gathering, and encouraged and organized scores of family parties and picnics over the years, and especially liked outings to Saratoga with her kids. Her mantra was “Family is Everything.”
Marilyn had a fine soprano voice and sang at many weddings, including one at the Washington National Cathedral. She started "singing" early in life. In 1933, before she was a day old, she exercised her vocal chords by wailing over the airwaves when her father, an amateur radio operator, bent the rules by calling his brother over the “ham” radio and broadcasting the newborn baby’s cries. That stunt made the papers, complete with photograph.... and the sympathetic regulators overlooked his breach of "ham" radio usage rules.
Marilyn was a loving Mother to five children, successful in her chosen profession, and a wonderful sister, aunt and friend who will be greatly missed. She was a deeply beloved sister to Bill Morris, Jim Morris, Barbara Morris-Lent, and Deborah White and their spouses, and to her late sister Arlene. She was a great friend to her coworkers, other friends and neighbors in the Capital District and in Rochester, NY, northern New Jersey and Phoenix, AZ over the years.
She was married to Neil Thomas of Rochester, and later to Robert Miller of Arizona.
Marilyn is survived by her loving children Michael (Helen) Thomas, Steven (Teri) Thomas, Donna (Rob) Zalucky, David (Kierstin) Thomas, and John Miller. She also leaves five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
