Marvin Hayner Sr. passed away Saturday October 15, 2016 at St. Peter’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Marvin was born in Troy to the late Curtis Hayner and Marion Hayner (Mickle), and was the loving Husband for sixty-five years of the recently departed Margaret Hayner (Frisch).

Marvin graduated from Troy High School in 1947. While in school Marvin excelled in sports, particularly baseball. He went on to play for the Troy Haymakers in the Albany Twilight League. He was inducted into Troy High School's Ed Pickens Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998.

Marvin served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952, after which he was employed by Allegheny Ludlum Steel/Al-Tech in Watervliet until his retirement in 1986. During his spare time, he worked as a roofer and sider. He enjoyed bowling, playing darts and horseshoes.

He was devoted to his family and enjoyed taking his own children and their friends for ice cream, swimming, sledding, hiking and camping (F-Troop).

He is survived by his children, Midge (Frank) Groff of Malta, Martha (Joe) Rounds of Troy, Curtis (Beth) Hayner of Troy, Marvin Jr. (Lynn) of Troy, and Alida (Kevin) Buchan of Averill Park, along with 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Marvin is also survived by his daughter in-law Mary Hayner, former daughter-in-law Terri McLaughlin Hayner, sisters-in-law Alida Hayner (Curtis) and Joan (John) Hayner, his sister Dolores Burke, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife Margaret, Marvin is predeceased by his son Joseph Hayner, daughter Paula Hayner, brothers Curtis and John Hayner, sister Marion Collett and great-grandson Nicholas Catalano.

A Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, October 21, 2016 at McLoughin & Mason Funeral Home.

Interment will follow at St. Jean’s Cemetery, Troy.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh.

Memorial donations in memory of Marvin may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.
