Mary Elsa (Sorensen) Durocher

Troy - Mary Elsa (Sorensen) Durocher, 81 passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 with her loving children by her side.

Born in Troy, she was the daughter of Orlin Sorensen and Margaret Maloney Sorensen and beloved wife of John E. Durocher who died in 2001.

A lifelong resident of Troy, Mary was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School, class of 1959.

Mary was an office manager for the Rensselaer Newman Foundation – Chapel + Cultural Center in Troy, retiring after 20 years. She previously worked for Catholic Central High School as the school secretary and Blue Cross Blue Shield before that.

Mary loved volunteering at Our Lady of Victory Church. Mary was a woman of faith and service and will be remembered as a thoughtful, compassionate and generous woman who treasured her family, her lifelong friends and religious community. Mary loved hosting family gatherings and Sunday dinners at her house. She also loved vacationing with her family in Cape Cod. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church, Troy.

Survivors include her children, John T. Durocher (Wendy) of Brunswick, Karen Koster (Robert) of East Greenbush, Matthew Durocher (Angel) of Brunswick; five beloved grandchildren Ryan Koster, Mara Koster, John N. Durocher, Joshua Durocher and Elsa Durocher; step grandchildren Jaiden, Zackari, and Colin Maloney; and her sister Karen Connally of Troy. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Mary was predeceased by her brothers John Sorensen and Edward Sorensen.

Donations in Mary’s memory may be made to Our Lady of Victory Church, 55 North Lake Avenue, Troy. Funeral mass will take place on Monday, December 12, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church, Troy. A calling hour will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the funeral mass. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Troy.
