Mary Thomas

Miss Mary Ellen. Thomas, 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Eddy Village Green in Cohoes. Born in Troy on January 29, 1918 and raised on Liberty Street, Mary was the only daughter of M. Arcangelo (Tomasulo) Thomas and Josephina Cerone Thomas, both of San Fele, Italy.

Mary was a World War II veteran having proudly served with the 8th Air Force Regiment and the Women's Army Corps. She was Honorably Discharged in 1945 and received multiple awards. She was stationed in England and treasured the friends and memories she made during her time in service including a meeting with Queen Elizabeth.

Upon Mary's return from her service, Mary was employed by the State of New York, from where she retired. She was a parishioner of St. Pius X in Loudonville. In her retirement years, Mary enjoyed spending her time visiting with neighbors, friends, family and her god children. Mary is survived by her cherished neighbors who she considered family as well as many cousins. Azra and Syed Haqqie were part of Mary's everyday world and they spent many happy holidays together. Naseem (Hania) Haqqie and Nadia (Khalid) Haqqie Hesham were like grandchildren to Mary and lovingly referred to Mary as Mimi. Mary is survived by many cousins and god-children, many who live in Canada and Italy. Mary's devoted cousins; Pasquale Cerone, Rosa Crecca (Cerone) and Lucia Faggella (Cerone) visited with Mary often and have fond memories of singing delightful Italian songs with Mary.

A special thanks is to be given to the caring staff at Building 7 of the Eddy Village Green. The staff dedication made Mary's last journey a wonderful trip.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at 11:00 am in the St. Pius X Church located at 23 Crumitie Road, Loudonville, New York 12211. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy.
