Michael White

Mike White, 59, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at home after a long illness with his devout fiancée Patty, her sisters and brother in law and best friend Brad at his side.

Born on February 17, 1957 in Albany, to John T. and Florence M. White, Mike graduated from Cardinal McCloskey High School. He retired after 37 years with the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance and is survived by his sister Patricia White Leuthold (Ronald), Sarasota, Florida and numerous cousins.

Mike’s lifetime passion, besides his enduring love for Patty O’Brien, was the Great Sacandaga Lake, where he enjoyed its world class recreational activities, including fishing, hiking and boating.  Entertaining family and friends at his lakeside camp was the highlight of his summers, especially around those many campfires he spent a good part of the day building.

He also treasured greatly his “Sacandaga Lake Family,” all longtime and close friends who shared his tireless enthusiasm and affection for all things Sacandaga. This includes Mike’s best buddy Brad Sherlock, who for more than several decades Mike valued for his wise counsel and unwavering friendship through the good times and the bad.

Mike had a big heart and was an easy going, good soul. He looked forward to being with family and friends, spending many holidays and time throughout the year with Patty’s mother, eight siblings, their spouses and children, and also her son Kyle and his many friends. Whether you were with him at his home or camp or plying the lake’s waters on his cherished Sunbird Cuddy Cabin motor boat (as the wind swept back his full head of hair), Mike was always a welcoming host. He made every effort to ensure his guests were comfortable, at ease, and having fun.

Another prized event in Mike’s life was fishing in the Gulf of Mexico during his much anticipated visits to Patsy’s and Ron’s home.  There many hours were spent recalling fond memories of their beloved parents, Jack and Flo, and their years growing up together on Albany’s Delaware Avenue.

Mike’s family would like to thank

Dr. Yogesh K. Gupta and his Paracentesis Family at Samaritan Hospital and Hospice for their kind compassionate care.

Relatives and friends may call on Friday, February 17, 2017 from 9:30 am to 10:45 am at Our Lady of Victory Church, 55 North Lake Avenue, Troy. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. following calling hours at Our Lady Victory Church by Father Randall P. Patterson, pastor who's spiritual support was most appreciated in these most difficult times. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
