Troy-Patricia Sheila (Huyck) Flood died peacefully surrounded by her family at home after a long and courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer on October 28, 2022. Born July 22,1943 at the old Leonard Hospital in Lansingburgh to loving parents John F. and Mary K. (Flanigan) Huyck.
Patty cherished stories of her childhood, especially time spent in her family’s grocery and deli with her brothers in South Troy.
Patty graduated from St. Mary’s School and Catholic Central High School in Troy, Class of 1961. After high school, she attended Wards IBM School and worked at the State Bank of Albany for many years before marrying and starting her family.
Devoted wife of the late John “Jack” A. Flood, Sr, whom she married at St. Mary’s Church in Troy on March 8, 1969.
Together with her husband Jack, Patty proudly raised five children – John (Julie), James (Amy), Thomas, Theresa (John) Hilton, and Erin (Mark) Lansing and ten grandchildren – John (Jack) Andrew III, Megan Elizabeth, Kathryn Alyssa, Matthew Gregor, Eamon Lloyd, Nolan Patrick, Maeve Eileen, Mark Joseph, Jr., Mary Carol, and Anna Lynn.
Patty was a faithful and supportive mother and grandmother. She was an active member of the former St. Augustine’s mother’s club. Perhaps more than anything she adored spending time with her children and grandchildren, watching them grow up and participate in sports. Patty was the best Mom and Grandma, instilling endless strength and compassion in her entire family.
Patty was fond of music, singing, dancing, and the ocean. She had a great sense of humor, a sweet tooth and enjoyed sharing a cup of tea. She was a great listener and gave the best back rubs. Patty was always selfless and generous to all she met. She donated routinely to food pantries, neighbors, and never let you leave her home without a gift from her. Patty’s enduring spirit was fostered by a devotion to the rosary, novenas, and St. Anthony.
Predeceased by her brothers Jackie, Joey, sister Sheila, and nephew Patrick Huyck. Survived by a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Patty will be deeply missed by her dogs Peaches and Joey.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to The Community Hospice especially Rosemary and Denise for their many months of patience and thoughtful care.
Calling hours will take place at McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm. A Mass of the Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday at St. Augustine’s Church at 10 am. Interment will be immediately following at Saratoga National Cemetery at 12:30 pm.
