Reginald Spence

In lieu of flowers, the family of the late Reginald Spence would like the donation proceeds to purchase computers for the Holly Hill Primary School near his home town in Big Woods Darliston, Westmoreland, Jamaica, W.I.  Reginald always stressed the importance of a good education to his family and friends and we feel that supporting the students at this school would be a great way to memorialize his legacy.

Reginald Osbourne Spence was born on September 3, 1926 in Dillion Bigwoods District, Westmoreland, Jamaica West Indies to Robert Spence and Louise Dobson. Reginald grew up in the era of British Colonial rule and later moved to Montego Bay to continue his education and work. Reginald’s tall, stately, energetic, handsome, and charming nature made him popular in the tourist restaurant, hotel industry, and he enjoyed a lifetime of working in numerous supervisory and managerial positions from Montego Bay, Jamaica (Colony Hotel) to Queens, New York (TWA Kennedy Airport), Manhattan, New York(Assembly Steak House-Rockefeller Center), and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (Wyndham Hotels, Marriott Hotels).

Reginald is remembered by family and friends as a person who loved to stay in contact and connected those that didn’t know each other. Most close to him recall that Reggie loved helping others, attending family gatherings, boasting about the accomplishments not only of his children/grandchildren/great-grandchildren but of his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends and always encouraged his children and family to, meet, visit and stay in contact with each other. Reginald/Slim/Daddy/Uncle Reggie/Poppa/Grandpa did his best to ensure all of his children, family, and friends knew how much he loved, admired and appreciated them. Reginald was hospitalized with illness related complications and passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 16, 2020 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, New York.

He was predeceased by his brothers Egbert, Winston, Gilbert, Melvin, Eric, and sister Birdelyn and leaves to celebrate his life: His sisters, Sybil Rowe/Fred (Birmingham, England) and Ivy Robinson/John Robinson (Birmingham, England), His children: daughter Grace Peters/Noel Peters (Ontario, Canada), daughter Judith Spence Wills/Michael Taylor (Laurelton, New York), son David Spence (New York), daughter Deborah Spence (Troy, New York), son Reginald Spence/Helen Spence (San Diego, California), daughter Roxanne Spence (Orlando, Florida), 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
