TROY - Richard Carley “Duke” 70, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Samaritan Hospital surrounded by his family.

Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Edward G. Carley and Mary Casey Carley and beloved husband of Dianne Nixon Carley of Troy.

Raised and educated in Troy, he was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, class of 67, Hudson Valley Community College and SUNY Albany.  Rich was a project manager with the Troy Housing Authority for 35 years, retiring in 2010.  He was a former co-owner of the Notty Pine Restaurant in Troy from 1977 to 1984.  He was a member of the Emerald Club golf league, a founding adorer of the Perpetual Adoration at the former St. Paul the Apostle Church in Troy in 1983 and adorer at St. Augustine’s Church, Lansingburgh.  He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, Troy.  Rich was a man of faith and service and will be remembered as a thoughtful, compassionate and generous man. He treasured his family, friends and religious community who will all miss his infectious laugh. He enjoyed coaching and volunteering for his children’s sport teams for many years. Duke enjoyed golfing with his friends at Frear Park, especially Smitty’s 19th Hole, and was a member of the Beman Park Boys and always looked forward to their monthly lunches.  He enjoyed creating charactures of his friends and sharing his art work with all.  He leaves behind a rich legacy of a life of goodness, service and respect for all persons.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Dianne, include his children Michele Johnston, (Andrew) of Brunswick, Kathleen Kussler (Keith) of Schaghticoke, Kevin Carley (Jaclyn) of Brunswick, six grandchildren Brenna Johnston, Abigail Kussler, Ella Kussler, Claire Carley, Patrick Carley and Mae Carley, two brothers Edward Carley (Carol Ann) , Michael Carley (Jacqueline), all of Troy, sister Annette Boeckling (Thomas) of Alameda, CA, sister in law Patricia Carley of Averill Park and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Richard was predeceased by his brother John Carley, nephew John B. Carley and his devoted feline family, Fluffy, Casey and Mollie.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Monday, September 9, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, Troy.  Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Troy.

Calling hours will be held on  Sunday, September 8, 2019 from 3:00 pm  to 6:00 pm at McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh.
