Troy- Richard L. Scanlon, 67, passed away on June 8th, 2021 after a battle with cancer. He was a life-long resident of Troy, NY. Richard was predeceased by his father, John F. Scanlon, and by his mother, Gertrude M. Scanlon (née Eichler), of Cohoes, NY.
Richie worked for a number of years at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy. His lifelong passion was the drum and bugle corps, a passion which saw him enjoy an abiding sense of community with all those involved. He was well known for his kindness to others and for his dry sense of humor. Richie played the trumpet and taught marching, first with the Speigleaires Jr. Drum and Bugle Corps, then with the Emerald Knights and finally, with the Avant Guard Drum and Bugle Corps.
Richie was an avid Boston Red Sox fan, much to the chagrin of his older brother Tom.
Richie is survived by his brother Thomas J. Scanlon and wife Catherine M. Scanlon of Poughkeepsie, NY. He is also survived by his brother Peter O'Connor of Los Angeles, CA. Richie has four nieces, three nephews and ten great nieces and nephews.
