Richard Shufelt

Obituary Image

My Uncle Richard Scott Shufelt left this world 7/14/2016. Born in Hudson NY he spent many years in Orlando FL and worked up and down the eastern seaboard. He held many Jobs. The longest job he held was following the Nascar circuit. He loved it. Nascar was long time love of his and he grew up spending every weekend at Lebanon Valley Speedway. My Uncles determination was legendary. When He decided to come back to NY he walked. The stories he told were amazing. He loved nature and loved animals especially our Z a beautiful cat we rescued from Pet Smart. He called her fatty and loved her very much. He asked about her every time I would see him. He never went passed the 8th grade. He never thought he was smart, but he had a keen intellect and was very inquisitive. He knew more about history and current events then could be taught in a class. Most importantly he loved his family. He had a bond with his buddy Damien that was amazing. He was one of Damien’s favorite people. As for me he was Oscar to my Felix and my big brother. He had a sense of humor and fun that was amazing. He could match wits with the best of them. If there is one thing I take from him is that humor. I will keep it with me always. He led an unconventional life and had many regrets. The main one was with his own kids. Regardless of many things he thought about them all the time and carried their pictures in his wallet. The only thing I wish for is that he knows he was love and will be in our hearts always. May he find the peace that he could never find on earth. The family would like to express their immense gratitude to Hospice, both at the Inn at St.Peter’s Hospital and those on the Albany County Nursing Home team. The staff were amazing and allowed Richard to pass on with great dignity. We would especially like to mention Father Hanover, Chaplin’s Donation and Leo, and Peter the Social Worker. They meant a great deal to him. Also, the family would like to thank the Staff at Unity House for their kindness and caring, especially Kevin and Maureen. Thank you all ! Calling hours will be held  on Saturday, July 23, 2016 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon am at the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home at the corner of 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh. Please visit www.mcloughlinmason.com.
