Richard H. Slavin, 66 of Ford Avenue passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at his winter residence in South Carolina.
Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Thomas F. Slavin, Sr. and Lillian Flanigan Slavin and beloved husband of Linda Danaher Slavin of Troy.
Raised and educated in Troy, he was a graduate of LaSalle Institute, class of 1966 and attended Hudson Valley Community College. Richard was a senior off set press machine operator with the graphic arts bureau for the New York State Department of Transportation for 40 years, retiring in 2003. Richard had a gift of compassion, humor and exuberance for life. He treasured his two daughters and grandchildren, and they were a source of deep joy to him. His step children were an additional joy in his life. He was a life member of the Poestenkill Volunteer Fire Department. A sports enthusiast, he was an avid Notre Dame football fan and R.P.I. hockey fan. He was a passionate reader, an animal lover and very proud of his Irish heritage. "KMIA"
Survivors in addition to his wife Linda, include his two daughters Courtney F. Day (J.P.) of Waterford, Kylie B. Slavin (Billy DeLap) of Troy, three step children Christopher Urban (Lisa) of Lyman, SC, Shawn Russo (Christina) of Springhill, FL, Amanda Russo of West Sand Lake, four grandchildren Dylan, Chloe, Thomas and Isabella, one brother Thomas F. Slavin, Jr. (Mona) of Poestenkill, two sisters Kimberly M. Rocco (Richard) of Poestenkill, Mari E. Wachtel (Christopher) of Averill Park and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 from the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh and at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church, 55 North Lake Avenue, Troy where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Troy.
