After his years of service and completion of college, he entered the field of public education, retiring after 35 years of service as a teacher, principal and school administrator. In his early teaching career, he returned to Lansingburgh High School where he taught mathematics for a 3-year period. His final assignment was as principal and assistant superintendent of the Shenendehowa School District, where he served 26 years. After leaving Shenendehowa he served for a period of time with the New York State Education Department as part of its school evaluation program.

Always interested in local history, he was a charter member of the Lansingburgh Historical Society serving many years as a member of its Board of Trustees.

He was a 72-year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lansingburgh serving at various times on one of the Church's Boards and as a Ruling Elder held the position of Clerk of Session for several years. Upon his death he was a Presbyterian member of the Cornerstone Community Church of Lansingburgh, successor to the former Church and the United Methodist of Lansingburgh.

He is survived by his Godson Gerwig (Clare) Moos of Manhattan and his cousins Gary (late Carol) Jones, Barbara (Irving) Walters and Sandra (Jack) Countois and their children, to whom he gave loving counsel.

He loved to travel, having visited many European countries in his younger years, as well as his yearly trips to Ogunquit Maine. He loved his Lord, family, garden and home and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

As an 11 year old in the 7th grade at Shenendehowa, Central School Mr. Zeller held a rather imperious persona as our high school principal, strict, but fair. I learned to appreciate his leadership throughout my years in high school once presenting him with my father's loaded service revolver which had been inadvertently "hidden" without my knowledge in a 3-ring binder on our dining room table. The long and short of it was that he calmly took possession of it, called my father, and I got to go back to class without passing through jail. No biggie! Simpler times back then. Mr. Zeller graciously attended our Class of '64's 50th reunion. Later Dick Reed (salutatorian) and I had the opportunity to have lunch with him at Verdile's Restaurant in Lansingburgh. I was surprised to learn that HE was actually a little apprehensive about meeting with US. But, no worries. We all had a very cordial and interesting meal reminiscing about the good old days at SCS. Thank you, Mr. Zeller...lead on!
