Troy- Richard T. Zeller 97 passed away on Friday June 3, 2022 at Samaritan Hospital. Born in 1924 and raised in Lansingburgh, Richard attended its public schools. Upon graduating from Lansingburgh High School in 1942, he then enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He served 3 years with the 4051st Army Air Corp as an instrument technician. After his years of service and completion of college, he entered the field of public education, retiring after 35 years of service as a teacher, principal and school administrator. In his early teaching career, he returned to Lansingburgh High School where he taught mathematics for a 3-year period. His final assignment was as principal and assistant superintendent of the Shenendehowa School District, where he served 26 years. After leaving Shenendehowa he served for a period of time with the New York State Education Department as part of its school evaluation program.
Always interested in local history, he was a charter member of the Lansingburgh Historical Society serving many years as a member of its Board of Trustees.
He was a 72-year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lansingburgh serving at various times on one of the Church's Boards and as a Ruling Elder held the position of Clerk of Session for several years. Upon his death he was a Presbyterian member of the Cornerstone Community Church of Lansingburgh, successor to the former Church and the United Methodist of Lansingburgh.
Richard was predeceased by his parents Ethel Groesbeck Zeller and Richard F. Zeller and his sister Shirley J. Zeller.
He is survived by his Godson Gerwig (Clare) Moos of Manhattan and his cousins Gary (late Carol) Jones, Barbara (Irving) Walters and Sandra (Jack) Countois and their children, to whom he gave loving counsel.
He loved to travel, having visited many European countries in his younger years, as well as his yearly trips to Ogunquit Maine. He loved his Lord, family, garden and home and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Family and friends are invited from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday June 8, 2022 at the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home corner of 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday June 9, 2022 at the Cornerstone Community Church of Lansingburgh. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
