Troy-Robert W. Horton, “Butch” 85 passed away on Saturday November 5, 2022 at the Van Rensselaer Manor. Born in Snyder’s Lake and raised in Averill Park, Robert was the son to the late Clifton Horton and Anna Hackett Horton and the loving husband to the late Barbara Henry Horton, she died in 2003.
Robert was a professional roofer, and a member of the Union Local 241 in Albany, he worked for several companies including Skyway Roofing.
Robert is survived by his children Cindy (James) Bevevino of Troy, Lynn (Joseph) Ryan of Troy, Thomas (Dawn) Horton of Troy and Brenda (Paul Pondillo) Chenaille of Troy, his twelve grandchildren, his twenty-four great grandchildren, also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his mother, father and wife Barbara, he was predeceased by his siblings Clifton Horton, Donald Horton, Carol Marrero, Connie Richards, Ilene Hornick and Shirley Richards.
Butch was an avid hunter who loved riding on his tractor mowing the lawn. He enjoyed watching the birds and sitting on the deck visiting with his family, especially his grandchildren who were the loves of his life. He was a lifelong Mets and Jets fan and he never missed any of his grandchildren’s football or baseball games. He enjoyed long rides around Snyder’s Lake and listening to music.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Van Rensselaer manor for the wonderful care during his short stay there. A very special thanks to Anna and Danielle who went above and beyond for our “Papa Horton.” He will be tremendously missed; we love you Pa.
Funeral services will be private for the family. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Troy.
