Robert Higgins, Sr

Robert Richard Higgins, Sr. passed away on August 4th, 2014 at Diamond Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center - six days before his 72nd birthday, and close to five months following the death of his beloved companion of 40 years, Judy Markowski.


A former Marine, Bob was an accomplished athlete who earned a tryout with the Mets, following a stellar career as a pitcher at Averill Park High School. His love of sports lasted a lifetime, and he enjoyed rooting for his New York teams. He was an extremely talented cook, often creating his own recipes. Bob worked in food service and as a house painter over the years, enjoyed dancing, and had an enthusiastic appreciation of cats, many of whom he fostered or adopted. He was also a member of the Eagles Club. He was born in Averill Park and lived most of his adult life in Troy and Lansingburgh.


Bob is survived by his sons Robert Higgins, Jr. and Jason Higgins; daughter Audra McCullers; step-sons Michael Markowsi and Jeffrey (Lisa) Markowski. He also leaves behind twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by Judith Markowski and his daughter Joelle Ann Comer.


Services will be held on Friday, August 8th, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm at McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh, with burial to follow at the Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy. To offer condolences, please visit mcloughlinmason.com.
