Shirley M. Dormandy

Brunswick-Shirley M. Dormandy, 92 died peacefully on Tuesday, May 23 at the Peregrine Senior Living of Colonie.

Born in Troy on June 26, 1930 to Henry & E. Mildred (Payne) Backus, Shirley was raised by her aunt & uncle, John & Lillian Christopher after her parents died before she was four years old. She grew up with her cousin, Jack Christopher, who she always considered a brother.

Shirley grew up in Lansingburgh, was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School, and worked at Manufacturers National Bank of Troy. On November 25, 1950, Shirley married David Dormandy and they soon became one of the original families to live on Brunswick Park Drive, a home where they raised three children. They were married for almost 65 years. David predeceased her in 2015.

Survivors include her three children, Gary Dormandy of Schaghticoke, Debbie Murphy (A.J.) of East Greenbush, and Dave Dormandy (Liz) of Johnsonville.   Shirley loved and was also extremely proud of her seven grandchildren, Matt, Kelly & Heather Dormandy, Christine Southard (Nolan) & Michelle Farrell (Brandon), and Dr. David Dormandy (Daniela) & Sara Carbone (Andrew).

She was also blessed to have five wonderful great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held from the Mcloughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109^th St. and Third Ave., Lansingburgh at 10:00 am on Saturday May 27, 2023 with burial following at the Oakwood Cemetery, Troy. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
