Steve Vasil, 88, proprietor of Famous Lunch in Troy, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015 at Van Rensselaer Manor with his loving family by his side.

Born in Kasitera, Greece, he was the son of the late Socrates Vasiliades and Parthena Simeonides Vasiliades and beloved husband of Christina Iliopoulou Vasil of Troy. Raised and educated in Greece, Steve served as an officer in the Greek Army. He immigrated to the United States in 1955. Steve co-owned the Famous Lunch in Troy with his brother, Nicholas Vasiliades and worked there for over 50 years until his retirement in 2006. Steve loved his work and serving his customers and always had welcoming words and a gracious smile. He enjoyed nothing more than a good political discussion with his friends and customers. His family was a source of great joy to him and he was especially proud of his grandchildren. He was an avid bee keeper, gardener and enjoyed deep sea fishing. Steve was an active member of St. Basil's Greek Orthodox Church in Troy and was a member of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) and the Capital District Pontos Society.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Christina, include his daughter Paula Vasil Varsamis of Houston, TX, his son Scott Vasil (Robin) of Troy, four grandchildren Loukianos Varsamis of Houston, TX, Christina Vasil, Melina Vasil, Sophia Vasil, two sisters Victoria Nicholas (Ed), Helen Papadopoulos all of Troy, his brother Vasilios Vasiliades of Greece,sisters-in-law Kathryn Vasiliades, Maria Iliopoulou both of Greece and several nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Steve was predeceased by his grandson Stathis G. Varsamis, his brother Nicholas Vasiliades, his sister Vasiliki Parcharides. Steve's family would like to thank all the family and friends for their support during this difficult time and also the staff at the Van Rensselaer Manor for their care during his stay there.

Funeral services will 10:00am on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church, 909 River Street, Troy with Fr. Emmanuel E. Mantzouris officiating.

Burial will follow at Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Belle Avenue, Troy.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 7pm at McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh.
