Mrs. Vivian Auslander Mendelsohn, 87, of Troy, NY and formerly of Wilmington, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday October 8, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family.
Vivian was born in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Bernard and Kate (Cottler) Auslander. She graduated from Midwood High School and Brooklyn College. After marrying, Vivian stayed at home to raise her family. After many years and several moves, Vivian and her family finally settled in Wilmington, NY, where she loved the quiet beauty of the mountains and relaxed pace. Along with her husband, Vivian owned and ran the Whiteface Market in Wilmington for 20 years before retiring.
Vivian is pre-deceased by her husband, Alan Mendelsohn (2006) and is survived by her children Jere Mendelsohn (and wife Mary), of CA, Peter Mendelsohn (and wife Becki), of FL, and Karen Mendelsohn Pelland, of Troy, NY. Her legacy will be carried on through her nieces, and beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom were the light of her life.
Many thanks go out to those who have been there to help Vivian throughout her later years in Wilmington. Your kindness and compassion made a difference in her life and the family is forever grateful for all your help. You helped her achieve her dream of living in an area that she loved and being independent.
Vivian's wishes will be honored by her family in a private service. Online condolences may be offered at www.mcloughlinmason.com.
