Walter Joseph McClure, Sr., 71 of Route 70, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Leonard S. McClure, Sr. and Marion F. Rogers McClure and beloved husband of Linda Rokjer McClure of Stillwater.
Raised and educated in Troy, he was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, class of 1963. Walter was a United States Air Force veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He worked in sales and was community affairs manager at the Times Union Newspaper for 35 years, retiring due to disability in 2001. Walter was a man of faith and service and will be remembered as a thoughtful, compassionate and generous man who treasured his family and friends. He influenced those he met with his understanding heart, his ready smile, genuine loving concern and will also be remembered as a great storyteller. A sports enthusiast, he was an avid Yankee fan. Survivors in addition to his wife, Linda include his four children, Walter J. McClure, Jr. (Jason Santora) of Albany, Ellen M. Russ of Clifton Park, Karen M. Martell (Mitchell) of Stillwater, Roger M. Zalucky (Courtney) of Clifton Park, ten grandchildren, David Moshier, Justin McClure, Charles Russ, Nathan Zalucky, Ava Zalucky, Richard J. Snyder “R.J.”, Karlee Snyder, Maci, Meghan and Bre Martell, his brother James D. McClure (Sandra) of Clifton Park, four sisters M. Jean Keville (late Fred) of Troy, Marian F. Lais (late Charles) of Troy, P. Joyce Wilfore (John) of Hilton Head Island, SC, Joan M. DeDeo (late Kenneth) of Troy and several nieces and nephews.
Walter was predeceased by his sister Elizabeth A. McClure, two brothers Leonard McClure and Paul McClure.
Funeral services will be 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 from the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh and 9:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church, Williams Road, Troy where the funeral mass will be celebrated.
Burial with full military honors will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
