Arthur William Crawmer, age 90, passed away peacefully at Slate Valley Center in
Granville, NY on Wednesday, February 3, 2021. He was the husband of the late Sonia
Basalyga Crawmer. Both Arthur and Sonia were former residents of the Danforth in
Hoosick Falls, NY. Prior to that, the Crawmers resided for many years on 7th Avenue in
Arthur was born on May 5, 1930 in Troy, New York, the son of the late Arthur William
Crawmer, Sr. and Elsie Tucker. He grew up and attended school in Lansingburgh before
joining the U.S. Army where he proudly served his country during the Korean War
conflict as a member of Company D 21st Infantry Division. While serving in Korea,
Arthur was wounded in battle and missing in action for ten days. In recognition for his
military service, Arthur was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal for Japan, Combat
Infantry Badge, Distinguished B-Unit Citation, the United Nations Medal for the Korean
Campaign and the Purple Heart.
Following his tour of duty, Arthur was employed by the Troy Department of Public
Works in the Sanitation Department where he was recognized for his outstanding work
ethic. Upon retirement, he enjoyed working in his yard and preparing delicious meals.
While living in Lansingburgh, Arthur and Sonia attended Trinity Episcopal Church,
enjoyed participating in a Saturday night bowling league and attending social events at
the Lansingburgh VFW.
Arthur is survived by his brother-in-law, Gordon (Peg) Basalyga of Schaghticoke, his
sister-in-law, Nadine (Joseph) Wilwol of Eagle Bridge, and his sister-in-law, Christine
(James) Harrington of East Dennis, MA.
A Funeral Service with full military honors is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021 at
1 PM at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Interment will follow the
